InertSpace VPS
The servers the co-op runs its own sites on.
What it is
The co-op runs its own servers instead of renting a platform. They carry AnalogCirc.us, PACT, and the co-op's mail. The long-term idea is to offer the same setup to other people: a personal site by default, switchable into a community server that hosts friends' sites. That is not offered today.
Why it matters
A community that rents its whole existence from a platform can be switched off by that platform. Running our own servers is what lets the co-op make promises about its members' sites and data that it can actually keep.
Current state
Where it is right now: the infrastructure is real and running. In August a production site moved between servers and was back on its real domain the same evening, which is the best evidence so far that this is a real capability and not a description. Hosting for other people is not offered: there is no checkout, no price sheet and no provisioning runbook, and the sales pages were retired in October so nothing promises otherwise.
What is next: nothing on this page until there is a community server to host. The work goes into AnalogCirc.us first.
Connections
Runs AnalogCirc.us with TopSoil as its admin layer, and PACT for member identity. Would host TentCities when there is a community layer to turn on.
Build log
Our own servers, carrying our own sites. Offering them to others comes later.

Running our own sites
The co-op's sites, sign-on and mail run on servers we manage. Single sign-on sits in front of every admin surface.

Public product pages rebuilt on inertspace.com (retired Oct 2026)
Community Servers, TentSites, and the InertSpace VPS pitch page all rebuilt as part of the site overhaul. Positioning locked in even though the checkout flow isn't there yet.

A production site moved hosts in a single day Proof
analogcirc.us was migrated to different infrastructure and was back up on its real domain the same evening. The largest piece of infrastructure work of the summer, and the closest thing yet to a rehearsal for the migration a hosting customer would eventually be asking us to do for them.
More
- The site, its database, its certificates and its mail path all had to move together. A migration is only as good as its least-rehearsed component, and mail was the one nobody had ever exercised.
- Mail was the real lesson. The path had never been tested end to end, so nobody knew it was broken until a real signup produced no email. A sending function that returns success is not evidence a message arrived.
- Everything learned here is runbook material. This is exactly the class of work the productization pass has to turn into something repeatable rather than heroic.

Sales pages retired
The hosting pitch came off inertspace.com. The servers keep running the co-op's own sites; offering them to others waits until there is a community server worth hosting.

Backup gaps closed, and checked by restoring
Things that were missing from the backups are now in them, and each was checked the only way that counts: restored and matched against the live copy. A nightly job that reported success while failing now reports the failure. The live sites are also watched from outside our own network, so an outage gets noticed even when our own machines are off.

Nothing here until there is a community server
The work goes into AnalogCirc.us first. Hosting for others comes back when there is a community server worth hosting.
